Biochemistry is the field of science which forms the foundation for understanding
of all biological processes. It offers24x7 endless diagnostic services to cater the
needs of patients and benefitted the community.
The Department of Biochemistry came to existence with the establishment of
Government Medical College, Udhampur in 2023.
The department provides a vibrant environment of interactive teaching learning
methodologies for undergraduates including Early Clinical Exposure Sessions
(ECE), AETCOM, AITo, OSPEs, Brainstorming, CBLs. The undergraduates are
intensively trained with clinical oriented approach to provide an integrated vision
of Medicine and basic sciences.
The department is well equipped with latest technologies for clinical research and
diagnostics at molecular level.

To impart quality education and meet the goals set by NMC (National
Medical Council) to create globally competent Indian Medical
Graduate.
To provide excellent and standard laboratory services 24x7 to cater the
needs of the community.
To encourage the faculty and Undergraduates for the research beneficial
for the humanity.
To create health care professionals capable of applying their
biochemical knowledge into clinical practice thus helping the society.
MISSION:
To provide reliable reports within stipulated time in the patients’
interest and serving the community.
To promote holistic, innovative teaching and to encourage a scientific
collaborative environment to pursue active research.
To impart students, the scientific basis of the life processes at the
molecular level and to orient them towards the application of the
knowledge acquired in solving clinical problems.
To help the students to analyse and interpret the biochemical
parameters relevant to clinical screening and diagnosis.
To establish good laboratory practice and maintain the quality of
health care services.
To enables enhancement of knowledge and skills for the empowerment
of the faculty through continuous training programs.
To inculcate professionalism and ethics in the learners.
The laboratory takes part in External Quality Assurance Services and
looking forward for National accreditation of laboratory services in the
future.
The department is also looking forward to introduce latest technologies
to help the society by enriching the diagnosis at molecular level.
The introduction of detection of various tumour markers, hormonal
assays, ferritin level will benefit the immunocompromised patients,
anaemic patients.
